Android 2.2 Froyo reaches HTC Desire from Vodafone UK

Just as promised, mobile phone carrier Vodafone UK will keep its word and become one of the first European carriers committed to deliver the Android 2.2 Froyo update for their HTC Desire units. Indeed, as the company announced last week, they should start sending the OTA update soon enough and it won’t take more that two weeks until every Desire owner will receive the Android Froyo. Other European carriers also promised to bring the Froyo update to the HTC Desire but it seems we will only see Vodafone customers bragging with the new OS on their Desire until next month at least.
This update was actually supposed to start rolling out more than a week ago, but we can forgive Vodafone UK for keeping us waiting since they have found a way for the device to work even faster than before. They were willing to give up all their applications that were present on the Desire before. And indeed every Desire running the Android 2.2 operating system will be “Vodafone apps free”. However, Vodafone claimed to remove all Vodafone 360 services along with some Vodafone 360 specific applications for Desires from the Android Market also.
In other news related to the HTC Desire, we’ve learned that a newer version of HTC Sync will be shortly released. The previous version of the HTC Sync app, namely 3.0.5387, was launched not very long ago but only for the HTC Wildfire and along with the promise from HTC to work on enlarging the application’s horizon. The HTC Sync 3.0.5422 will be supported by HTC Aria, HTC Wildfire, HTC Desire, HTC Legend and HTC Hero devices running the Android 2.1 Éclair OS or higher. We’ve learned about this new version of HTC Sync from HTC’s support page, but it seems that the download links are not yet available.
We’re glad to see the Froyo update finally reaching the HTC Desire, although we actually anticipated this to happen sometime in July. We’re still waiting for HTC Legend and Wildfire’s updates also.
