After a little delay, Apple finally released iTunes 10 on September 1st. The latest version of iTunes is available for download.
The biggest addition to iTunes 10 is arguably the Ping music social networking. However, Apple also added AirPlay for wireless media streaming, a redesigned interface and a new logo. The latter caused some controversy, as some long-time fans said they were disappointed with Apple giving up on a well-established logo in favor of a new one.
The new logo no longer features the CD in the background. However, it keeps the musical notes. Jobs believes Apple will overshadow total CD sales in the U.S.A by next spring, so maybe he is right about the removal of the CD from the logo.
Apple also had some problems with the site. Jobs promised that iTunes 10 would be possible starting Wednesday, September 1st, but many users complained they couldn’t download it, being redirected to iTunes 9.2.1. It seems high traffic to Apple’s official website was to be blamed.

Now let’s talk a little about Ping, the new social music network, mentioned before. Ping is built directly into the iTunes, so you will be able to see music updates from anywhere. enables you to follow your favorite artists, get in contact with other users, talk about music and much more. You can even learn what music an artist likes and pick up some of his recommendations. You can find out what artists will be concerting near you and when (Ping has over 17000 concert listings). Then you can buy tickets from Live Nation. You’ll also find 30-seconds previews of songs your friends recommend, which you can easily download. Ping also has a Top Chart system which tells you what people like most. You can also connect to your Facebook account , so you’ll be able to find even more about music fans.
There are about 160 million people from 23 countries who are using iTunes so Ping has a big chance to monopolise the social music zone. You can download iTunes from here.

After downloading iTunes 10 my iPod will no longer sync with my computer running XPSP3. Thanks a lot, Apple.
