Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 (FroYo) Update Release Date: September 2010
Posted on 08. Aug, 2010 by Free PC Guides in Cellphone News, News
Samsung UK confirmed (via their official Twitter account) that the Samsung Galaxy S will be getting the Android 2.2 (FroYo) update sometime at the end of September. Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing if the Android 2.2 update will come at that date only for the international version of the Galaxy S (the i9000), or if the American Galaxy S versions (AT&T’s Samsung Captivate, the T-Mobile Samsung Vibrant, etc) will be getting their share of Froyo at the same time.
Here is the link to the official Samsung UK tweet concerning the Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 (FroYo) update. We’ll get back to you as soon as we find out if this announcement applies to every single Samsung Galaxy S owner around the globe or if American customers will have a little more of waiting ahead of them.

It’s not out yet. Just wait for it, your handset will let you know when it’s ready to download. Just make sure you got plenty of battery power and you’ll be all set to hit accept when the time comes!

Does anyone know, with the update of 2.2, will you then be able to use websites like Hulu? Has anyone else read about the release date for the tmobile samsung vibrant? I know Spints HTC phones and others already have that update, and wondering when Tmobile will get theres, if there is a for sure date, or if we’re all still wondering when. This is my first smartphone so bare with me here. thanks for the help. -Dan

Hulu has blocked mobile devices, unless you pay for it I think. Other sites should be fine.

It comes out this month. Almost any day now. No galaxy s phone has 2.2 on any of the us carriers. We are all getting it this month. Just have patients.

@ DAN, HULU wont allow phone to watch their sites. they block all mobile version. thats just the way they are. i sell phones for a living and HULU cock blocks alot.
@ PETER, you again will have to wait for the update it will be over the air. so as of right now thiere is no 2.2 yet.
@ tiom, VERY GOOD POINT ABOUT READING THE ARTICLE

@KENG – hmm, but the update will not be OTA, you have to use KIES for that… Currently the date of release is around 23. september

Iv been testing the froyo update for past few weeks on my galaxy s it still has alot problems to iron out before even thinking about release. Battery life and signal strength are excllent however there is stability issues with wifi and teethering. Phone is bit slow and frustrating to use at times just like the vanilla eclair update so nothing new.theres more colourful icons and faster better gps lock. Flash 10.1 and working great ads, youtube and flash games work but as always there is a problem the galaxy s doesent always recognise the small buttons within flash window so skipping scenes or trying to change to 720p on youtube is near impossible.

I dont know why everyone complains about the battery life on the galaxy s line, I have the captivate and with a little tweaking, i only recharge once every other day and thats with moderate use and with wifi on.

Can you let us know how you tweaked it I have to rechage at least 2 times per day

i been surfing looking for a answer to the 2.2 upgrade issue…i got rid of my moto blur cliq due to a year of promises on upgrades. I found the samsung vibrant and am in love with it aside from a few things.
1. battery life
2. it some times freezes between apps
3. flash player
Outside of these issues the 1 gig processor is a huge upgrade from my G1 and moto cliq respectivly. I will however never buy a Moto phone ever again. HTC and Samsung for me. They seem more friendly to users and the needs of people.

For the record there is a rooted version out there for the galaxy s series but its best to wait the extra week or so. As far a the person who was asking about T-Mobile versus other carriers getting 2.2 for HTC that’s like apples to oranges. T-Mobile doesn’t have control Samsung does. In that respect Samsung has to rewrite a lot of their code so that 2.2 works with their user interface. On the topic of battery life do any of you put your phone down or own a car charger. The only time Ive had an issue with my vibrant is when I didn’t bother to use the car charger to and from work and was still able to get about 15 hours of mixed use before it asked me to plug it in.

First off android 2.2 is available for the galaxy s series that is if you want to root (I guess is the term being used) your phone. However, just save yourself the hassle and wait the week or so for the official release. I imagine rooting your phone would void any kind of warrantees and such. Second the person who commented on the fact that other carriers already have 2.2 for HTC well its just that T-Mobile doesn’t have control of when Samsung releases an update nor do any of the other carriers for the galaxy s line. Samsung has to rework their whole user interface to properly work with 2.2. Last but not least those of you getting short battery life…put the phone down once in a while. It is not designed to be a.replacement for your computer. I have had my vibrant a full month now and the only time I had an issue was when I didn’t use my car charger to and from work and even then I got a full 15 hours of mixed use before of politely asked to be recharged.

Im a but worried about froyo having to be downloaded via kies. Its a major problem for me that kies and my galaxy s don’t want to know each other!

go into settings>usb settings>set to Kies. i had the same prob, you can also set it to ask which usb mode to use when you plug it into a comp. hours on the internet and nothing helped, 2 mins of playing with settings options and i solved it lol.

Hey anyone who wants flash on 2.1 that works decently well just head over to XDA developers and check out the appropriate forum (vibrant, captivate, i900, fascinate) and check out what those guys are doing. I know that the I9000 and vibrant people have found a way to get prereleases of 2.2 on their phones.
But as for flash just google flash for 2.1 apk, install and enjoy!

Battery life has decreased a lot since 2.2 update. Before I used to get 24 hours plus with moderate use and wifi always on. Now I only get average 15 hours, however says this is good, it really isn’t compared to previous performance where I could charge every other day. Very frustrating when I was used to excellent performance.
Dave
05. Dec, 2010
O and by the way I now leave wifi/internet off for most of the day, but this doesn’t seem to help performance at all. If anyone knows of any battery tweaks, please help… or Samsung if you are reading this, please issue us with a fix! Also any of you that experience lag issues after upgrading, do a hard reset, this solved my lag problems a treat.

when is the update coming out for the t-mobile vibrant. I have been waiting a long time.
Dara
14. Feb, 2011
Still waiting. Tell you what, AT&T. I’ll just wait until the contract is up and change carriers.. This is rediculous. You’re rtying to win a battle with Samsung and loosing customers instead.
