Verizon Motorola Droid X users reporting display problems

The Motorola Droid X, one of the greatest expectations this year from the smartphone market, already seems to be disappointing some of its customers. And for good reason, Motorola and Verizon stepped off with the left foot. Firstly Verizon Wireless couldn’t provide as a carrier for the Droid X as promised. Even with guarantees that stores can cover all customer orders and warehouses await with plenty more Droid Xs to send out if needed, Verizon woke up empty handed and in need of reassuring customers with a new deadline for supplying more devices.

Now it seems a new issue arose regarding the Droid X, this time from the manufacturer though. Several Droid X users complained on different cell phone forums about a series of problems they encountered with the gigantic 4.3 inch LCD. The problems seem to be of an electrical or graphical nature manifesting in vertical banding all over the display or on some parts of it and including some sort of rapid flickering. Some say the problem may be caused due to a corrupt display driver or problems that appear in the LCD controller itself. We cannot state how spread this issue has become but we know for a fact that a few customers already made complaints and had their cell phones replaced. Verizon and Motorola were made aware of these issues and gave a plane and simple solution for every user that owns a Droid X with these sorts of symptoms. They were advised to contact a Motorola customer support center or Verizon Wireless implying that the phones will be exchanged with new ones.

In other news, to wash out a bit of the shame it went through with all the problems the Droid X faced, Verizon Wireless launched another firmware update for the device. This is the second software update for the Motorola Droid X, the first one being released even before the phone’s official release date which was on July 15th. At the first software update the Droid X jumped from version 1.13.514 to 1.13.516. Now Verizon released a fresh new version under the name of 1.13.604 which came with the following changes: an improved battery status indicator, a faster Exchange email loading, a redesigned weather widget, improved 3G mobile hotspot capability, faster visual voicemail loading, favorite contacts that are sorted by frequency and a new GPS symbol to notify the area. The Droid X will now come with preloaded My Verizon and Amazon Kindle e-book reader applications.

Winding up, let’s remind every Droid X fan that Verizon will start rolling out an operating system update pretty soon, in the late summer to be more precise, exchanging the 2.1 version of Google’s Android OS with the Froyo version (Android 2.2).
