While the Motorola DROID X release date of July 15 did not create the buying frenzy Apple’s iPhone 4 did, but it still has managed to sell more than Motorola and Verizon were able to place in stores throughout the country, although Verizon seemed to be sure this won’t happen.
Smartphone fans seem to like the new Motorola DROID X from Verizon Wireless as the carrier itself has announced that the Android 2.1 smartphone is in short supply or even sold out in some parts of the country. Fortunately for future buyers, this shortage should be solved “on or before” July 23, so if you want your own Motorola DROID X, go ahead and order it now, as Verizon Wireless states you’ll get it this week.

The Verizon Motorola DROID X is running Android 2.1 (although it has received a couple of updates pre-release), but we believe that the DROID X will be among the first smartphones to get the Android 2.2 (Froyo) that everybody is waiting for. Engadget estimates the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the DROID X will have its release date in late August.
