First Verizon Motorola Droid X Update

It seems that Verizon isn’t giving us a break. It’s only been 2 days since Motorola and Verizon finally made the official announcement regarding the fourth “Droid” branded phone on Verizon Wireless and we already had the pleasure to learn about a software update.

Unfortunately, it’s not a jump from the current Android 2.1 OS to the latest stable version, Android Froyo (Android 2.2). It looks like the Droid X had enough with its last software version (namely the 1.113.514, let’s call it “the old version” from now on) and is heading for a new one. I’m talking about the update to 1.13.516.en.US which will probably bring some changes and I’m ONLY speculating because the changelog link points to Motorola’s home page. But this software update probably happened as a consequence to some changes that occurred after these demo units were assembled.

First Verizon Motorola Droid X Update available before July 15 Release Date

Although the formal announcement for the Android-based smartphone was made at a press conference two days ago, on June 23rd, the online community was able to get its hands on some pretty interesting details and specs about the Motorola Droid X long ago. It’s like the guys over at Engadget said: this is “one of the worst kept secrets in recent memory”. But not even they could find out what’s probably the most important thing about this phone. I’m talking about the Motorola Droid X release date, which we now know for sure to be on July 15, 2010, and, of course, Droid X’s price. On the 23rd, at the press conference, Verizon revealed that the new Droid will cost $199, after $100 rebate with a 2 year contract agreement.

Now I don’t know if Motorola was planning this smartphone for a later date, but they had to come up with something to reply to HTC’s power play in the Android smartphone market. The Verizon Droid X super smartphone sounds interesting and quite affordable, not to mention that, considering this unexpected and fast software update, it looks like Motorola and Verizon are talking business.
