O2 Dell Streak combines Tablet and Smartphone features

In the first half 2010, the tabled segment of the mobile devices market received an increasing amount of attention from everyone: users, carriers, and especially producers wanted in on the tablet frenzy, especially now as Apple’s iPad was an overwhelming success. While HP plans to enter this market with the HP Slate (and maybe even the rumored HP Hurricane) and Google and Verizon have big plans for the gPad, Dell made its move in a timely fashion, by planning the Dell Streak tablet with O2 in Europe on a June 2010 Dell Streak release date. AT&T might also get the Dell Streak tablet / smartphone, but no release date has been confirmed yet.

The Dell Streak is not a tablet per-se. In fact, it is more of a combination between a tablet and a smartphone. The 5-inch display is larger than any smartphone out there, but smaller than what you would expect from a full fledged tablet. While the downside is obvious when you’ll try to watch a movie, the upside is that the Dell Streak can place call just like a regular smartphone.

The Dell Streak makes up for the smaller screen (when compared to other tablets) with the mirror-like image (the display on the Dell Streak uses a 800×480 pixel resolution). From my point of view, I’d rather have a great 5 inch display than a modest 7 incher.

The Qualcomm Snapdragon ARM 1Ghz processor should provide enough processing power, while the 5MP camera with autofocus and a dual LED flash, combined with the quality of the display should make the Dell Streak the tablet of choice for photography fans.

What most of you will love is that the Dell Streak will be running Android OS, with Google Maps turn-by-turn navigation and integrated Twitter, Facebook and YouTube widgets providing social integration right out the box. Connectivity-wise, the Dell Streak is jam packed with Wi-Fi, 3G, Bluetooth 2.1 and the 7.2 Mbps HSDPA / HSUPA. The microSD slot can expand the storage space on the Dell Streak with up to 32GB.
