HP Pavilion DM1 up for sale at just $449.99

We’ve had our eyes for quite some time now on one of HP’s latest bombs and we’ve been looking forward to seeing it on American land also since it already got availability in some parts of Europe. The 11.6-inch HP Pavilion DM1 is now up for sale at just $449.99 but if you put your mind into it you can easily empty your pockets of an extra couple hundred dollars.

Very similar to HP’s Mini 311, the DM1 stands between a notebook and an ultraportable with its total weight of just 3.24 pounds. The engineers over at HP opted for a CPU from AMD, the Athlon II NEO with multiple choices ranging from 1.3 GHz (K325) to 1.7 GHz (K125). A thumbs up for the RAM memory that can reach up to 5 GB of DDR3. The hard drive isn’t that bad too providing space for 250 GB of files.

The DM1 offers an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4225 which supports a maximum resolution of 1,366 x 768. It’s worth mentioning that you will definitely not be disappointed with the 92 percent full-size solid no flex keyboard but the no multi-gestures touchpad leaves much to be desired. Unfortunately there is no DVD writer incorporated but you can choose an external one. The VGA webcam could be better, but at least it’s there and it comes with an integrated microphone too. The DM1 has 3 USB sockets and a 5-in-1 card reader and it is equipped with 802.11n WiFi that we’ve heard wasn’t quite available before. On the pros side we should also note the excellent audio thanks to Altec Lansing, the low fan noise and the 6-cell battery that works for up to 5.25 hours. As for the cons, we’ve seen that the touchpad and the webcam aren’t that great and we should also underline the lid flex. The HP Pavilion DM1 comes pre-packed with a 64-bit copy of Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional which will save you a lot of trouble installing all those nasty drivers.

The specs for the HP Pavilion DM1 sound quite appealing and judging from the reviews we’ve been able to read people who used this notebook are pretty satisfied so it’s worth trying your luck with it since it’s not that expensive.
