Archos decided not to wait to long after the release of Archos 43 and decided to release another slate model: the Archos 70. The company describes the 7 inch tablet to be slim and light, and due to it’s design, it has a remarkable portability. Interested customers can already find this new model on the company’s site for the price of $279.99.
In order to keep up with today’s tablet market, the company equipped the slate with 8 GB of internal memory along with the possibility to expand your storage capacity with a Micro SD card slot which is SDHC compatible. For this particular tablet, Archos chose Android as the operating system, so if you are already familiarized with it thanks to a phone or another tablet, it shouldn’t take too long to get used to it. Of course, due to the fact that the Archos 70 runs Android, you will be able to customize it with your favorite Android applications.
Among the slate’s features, customers can expect HD multimedia, which allows the viewing of your favorite HD movies, and also pictures on the 7 inch touchscreen, video chat, for keeping in touch with the people close to you, thanks to the front facing camera and a HDMI output for ensuring an easy way to connect your device to the TV and watch HD movies stored on it. Of course, it also has Internet access and applications for email and contacts so you will be able to surf the web with ease, and also WiFi connectivity (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth connectivity. Even though the tablet comes with Android 2.1, customers will be able to upgrade it to 2.2 starting with the end of November.
The Archos 70 is powered by a 1 GHz processor, and the display offers a 800 x 480 pixel resolution. It will also have USB support because, let’s be honest, what self-respecting device nowadays doesn’t. Also, some of you may consider that there is not enough storage space, so you might want to hold off on the purchase if you have some extra money to spend, because it appears like the company has a 250 GB model in mind for the near future which will come out at $350. The only thing left to take into consideration is whether this tablet is what you need or whether you have your eyes on something else. One thing is for sure: this isn’t the last we hear from Archos.
