Call of Duty Black Ops – Graphical bug in pre-launch footage

More news on Call of Duty: Black Ops, the game with the best pre-order success ever (pre-order it now from Amazon) This time on the “not so exciting” prospect of graphical bugs/glitches but this has to be covered somehow. It looks like not even the best in the business are strangers to graphical bloopers. The latest episode of GTTV was a Call of Duty: Black Ops special. Footage this important is usually scrutinized very carefully by several people before being deemed of public release. Somehow, these footages have slipped through their fingers and ended up on our dissecting table.

Don’t be alarmed, the bug is a minor one, not annoying in the least, but the part worth noticing was that it slipping and ending up on GTTV. Explanations can be many, as you probably already know, a new high-end technology was used in the making of Call of Duty: Black Ops, the same technology used in James Cameron`s Avatar, or in games like Uncharted 2 and Heavy Rain. The technology relies on motion capture systems. The results are amazingly accurate and don’t require such a thorough examination. Even so, we were surprised to encounter this bug.

Here you have the clipped footage of the bug occurring:

Some of you may laugh (we did) when noticing it. It is noticeable but not eye-popping. I am willing to bet that 99% of those who would have played this game at home wouldn`t have noticed it. The story of the game and the dialogue require your attention and bug spotting is not a very fun sport.

Call of Duty: Black Ops

I would recommend you to watch the movie first, keep an eye out for the bug, and if you don’t see it read the following.

Spotted it? Probably so, because you were looking for it. Sergeant Woods, the guy talking, you can see how his jacket is clipping into the 3D mesh of the car seat. It is true that it`s not eye candy, but the rest is, the visual effects, the textures, the graphics, character animation… who cares about a minor bug like that. It will surely be polished off on game release, but make no mistake, heads surely rolled for this, this should never happen to pre-release public footage. Here`s to Call of Duty: Black Ops. Cheers
