Leaked BB CDMA Timeline: Q2 – Playbook, Q3 – Montana, Monaco

It’s that time again when smartphone companies – BlackBerry included – are planning their release timeline for the rest of the year. Just recently, the timeline for this year’s releases of BlackBerry CDMA phones has been leaked to the general online populace. We will focus on the new units. Crackberry.com is the website that claims to have obtained the internal timeline of BlackBerry releases.

First off is the much awaited Montana; the CDMA version of the BlackBerry Bold Touch whose GSM version codenamed “Dakota” is also slated for a Q3 release date. Both phones (touted as the thinnest BlackBerries ever) will be equipped with 1.2GHz processor, touchscreen, physical QWERTY keypad, and 5 MP camera.

A phone codenamed “Sedona” seems to be what BlackBerry allegedly calls “The Next Generation Curve” – its GSM counterpart is codenamed “Apollo.” Sedona is an entry-level device with an 800GHz processor, 512MB RAM, 5MP camera, and WiFi and EvDO Rev A capabilities. The BlackBerry Montana release date is supposed to arrive in August, while Sedona has a release timeframe of August to September.

One previously unknown handset is Malibu – the new BlackBerry Curve Touch. The device has a touchscreen, 800GHz processor, and a 5MP camera. It has a late fall 2011 release date.

There’s also the BlackBerry Playbook which is a 7-inch tablet equipped with flash and 1GB RAM. Finally, there’s the Monaco Touch, which is another touchscreen handset with 1.2GHz processor, 3.7-inch display, and a 5MP camera. Its target release date is between July and August of this year.

Along with the leaked specs and release dates of BlackBerry’s CDMA handset, slides on further details about BlackBerry 6 Evolution were also leaked. Previously known specs of BB 6.1 include magnetometer support, HD video recording and playback capabilities, HTML5 capabilites, and Near Field Communications or NFC capabilities which would ultimately allow users to pay for goods and services using their mobile devices. The slides, however, reveal new details such as “liquid graphics,” that provide user experience with fluid animation and significant increase in frame per second performance. Other capabilities include the capacity to customize homescreen and voice-enabled universal search.
